A delegation comprising four members of the State Child Protection Commission arrived in Sandeshkhali on Saturday morning to assess the ongoing situation in the villages. The atmosphere in Sandeshkhali has been tense for the past few days following demands from local residents for the arrest of Trinamool leaders Shahjahan Sheikh and Shibu Hazra, amid allegations of harassment leveled against them. This has led to heightened political tensions, with various parties using Sandeshkhali as a focal point for their attacks on the Trinamool party. In response, the Trinamool has claimed that the unrest in Sandeshkhali is fueled by opposition instigation.
The delegation, led by State Child Protection Commission Chairperson Tulika Das and Advisor Sudeshna Roy, aims to investigate allegations of child abuse that surfaced on February 10. The incident involved a child allegedly being forcibly taken from their mother's lap and thrown away. The State Child Protection Commission's intervention comes as a response to these serious allegations, indicating a proactive stance in addressing child welfare issues amidst the volatile situation in Sandeshkhali.
